HOW TO: INCREASE YOUR STORE'S HOLIDAY SALES
For many retailers, the holiday uptick in sales is more important than ever during this challenging year. The winter holiday season is the perfect opportunity to boost profits for your discount store, dollar store, gift shop, or convenience store. The holidays are also a great opportunity to make up for sluggish summertime sales.
Here is a list of tips that store-owners can use to get their holiday merchandise sold quickly and profitably.
DRESS UP THE STORE
Decorate the store with seasonally-appropriate wreaths, cardboard stands, and colorful signs. Remind your customers of the upcoming celebration, and they will be more likely to add some holiday-related items to their shopping carts. Ask your staff to wear a holiday accessory, and feature holiday-themed announcements in prominent store areas like entrances and cash registers.
GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED, SHOW THEM WHAT THEY WANT
For most people, the holidays mean a party or family gathering, and for some, a huge shopping list of decorations and gifts for everyone at home and at the office. Take this time as an opportunity to sell your customers things they definitely need, such as baking pans, disposable serve ware, and gift wrap, alongside things they could potentially want, such as balloons, candles, and funny holiday plaques.
CREATE A THEME AND SELL IT
A popular and timely theme such as decorating a home for the upcoming holiday can make for a great selling opportunity. Create a bright and highly visible mini-section that consists of colorful and fun holiday decorations, along with other decoration-related items (adhesives/tape, glue, etc). A diverse selection of decorations ensures that something is bound to catch a customer's eye. Consider putting up a sign such as "Decorate for the Holidays" above a mix of candles, string lights, ceramic bowls, and holiday-themed picture frames.
IMPULSE (LAST MINUTE) ITEMS ON THE CHECK-OUT COUNTER
Set up an "impulse buy" display filled with inexpensive and fun items for the next holiday next to the cash register, where every customer will notice it. This display can promote the next big holiday as well as offer a simple and cheap solution, such as greeting cards, plastic flowers, or inexpensive decorations. Solve your customer's holiday shopping problems on the cheap, and they'll thank you for it!
GET READY TO DRINK
Holiday parties and dinners are often big drinking events. Use a colorful sign or a temporary aisle display to highlight your selection of "holiday" drinking glasses, mugs, and cups. |
